Aims of the Center

The centre aims:

  • To impart good teaching skills that will improve the work of teachers in the private, public and international schools in Ghana.
  • To equip those aspiring to teach in pre-schools and basic schools with the prerequisite skills and pedagogy.

The Excel Teacher Training Programme

The course is structured to give advance knowledge and practical skills of teaching and learning to high school, polytechnic or university graduates who want to teach at any level of pre-school, basic education or at the international level. This course will equip participants with the knowledge of the nature of the Ghanaian Education System, the Cambridge and US Curriculum. After the programme, Professional diploma certificates are issued by the training centre to participants of the programme. These training certificates are duly recognized in the job market.

The Local Teacher Training Programme has two levels: Early Years (12 weeks) and Basic Education (12 weeks).

Admission Requirements

The applicant must have a minimum qualification of a senior high school education with passes in English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social studies. You must also present curriculum vitae and two passport pictures.

Course Materials

The participant will be given course manuals by the institution but additional books would have to be purchased by the student.

 SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION (NEW MODULE)

This Module in Special Needs Education is specifically developed for students who want to work with children who have special needs. Graduates of the program will have the skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary to function well in this industry. The learning of skills and competences in real-world scenarios of Special Needs is one of its main components. Students receive hands-on training in actual job settings, collaborating with special needs students and stakeholders as well as providers of special education services. Learn to effectively manage children with learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual disabilities, behavioural disorders, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.

This programme equips graduates with:

  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches for working with families and young children with disabilities or at risk for disabilities;
  • Collaboration and support abilities with families of children with special needs;
  • Effective methods for teaching young children with disabilities;• Early intervention skills, which include identifying developmental delays in children at an early age and acting quickly to address special needs issues before they become chronic issues;• The management and organizational skills necessary for them to function in governmental and non-governmental organizations that support families with children with special needs.
